Wouldn’t it be comforting to know that many of your neighbors have certification and experience in life support, trauma care, CPR, and other emergency procedures?
What if they were ready to respond in just a few minutes at any time, day or night, fully trained and equipped to provide care until an ambulance can arrive? That describes the Sunrise Beach VFD EMS Response Team.
Typical of most rural communities, the professional EMS crews that serve the Sunrise Beach area are stationed several miles away, and their response times are correspondingly longer than they might be in the middle of a city. That is where EMS First Responder Organizations (FRO’s) come in, bridging that critical gap between the initial call for help and the arrival of an ambulance.
Our FRO is a group within the membership that is certified by the State of Texas Department of Health and Human Services, and is overseen by a Physician Medical Director who specializes in emergency care. We are very fortunate to have members who are trained and certified at various levels including Emergency Care Responder (ECR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP), up through Advanced Practice Provider (APP). In late 2016, several members of the FRO were presented with the Phoenix Life Saving Award for utilizing CPR to save a life.
Our Command Vehicle responds to all medical calls. It is equipped with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), supplemental oxygen equipment, a full range of trauma supplies, splints, backboards, and lift-and-carry devices. We are trained and equipped to coordinate with all of the area helicopter transport services, and we have a dedicated helipad available at the community airport when air evacuation is required. With much of our territory bordering the Highland Lakes, we also carry water rescue equipment and train regularly in water-related incident response.
Whether the call is for critical life support or simple help to get up from a fall, Sunrise Beach VFD EMS Response is ready and standing by.
